MDC Foundation Awards 100 Scholarships From Donations Raised on I AM MDC Day

Miami Dade College Foundation awarded 100 scholarships to deserving students as a result of a successful I AM MDC Day on Sept. 6, MDC's annual day of giving and pride. The formal announcement was made Tuesday night at a private event in which student scholarship recipients had the opportunity to meet donors who funded these and other scholarships this year. I AM MDC Day raised a total $228,543, more than three times the amount raised in its first year, with funds benefiting student scholarships and academic programs.

Students trading voucher for Nutrition Program

Meal Voucher Program Fills Need at MDC

In a first-of-its-kind gift to Miami Dade College Foundation, a donor is tackling food insecurity with the launch of a new student meal voucher program. "A student who lacks food cannot learn," says the donor who wishes to remain anonymous, "and that's why I became passionate about starting this program." In its first month, the Shark Student Nutrition Program distributed more than 1,900 vouchers. To continue the program into next semester, additional support is needed.

Philanthropist Jay Kislak Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award

This National Philanthropy Day, Nov. 17, philanthropist Jay Kislak will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to excellence in business, education, community service and philanthropy. The award will be presented at the annual luncheon of the Miami Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). In January, the Jay I. Kislak Foundation made a landmark gift to Miami Dade College and the University of Miami that includes more than 2,300 rare books, maps, manuscripts, pre-Columbian artifacts and other historic materials.

JPMorgan Chase workforce development program check presentation

JPMorgan Chase Commits $700,000 to MDC's Workforce Development Program

JPMorgan Chase has awarded Miami Dade College $700,000 over two years to help hundreds of South Florida’s youth gain the skills needed to land jobs in information technology, trade and logistics. Each year, the new MDC-Career Connect initiative will provide fast-track training for 100 to 150 Miami-Dade County students ages 16 to 24, earning college credit and shortening the time it takes to obtain a workforce credential. The program aims to strengthen MDC's career pathway programs in information technology, trade and logistics in Greater Miami, fields with high demand for middle-skill workers.

Meet the New Leader of The Idea Center: Romi Bhatia

In just three years, The Idea Center at Miami Dade College has become renowned for being an engine of innovation for solving today's problems. This fall, The Idea Center welcomed new leadership, Romi Bhatia, as the Executive Director. Bhatia comes to MDC from USAID, where he served as Senior Advisor for Diaspora Partnerships. He previously held positions in international operations and microfinance and was an adjunct professor at George Washington University.
