COVID-19 Resources for MDC Alumni and Friends

The MDC Office of Alumni Relations is committed to serving as a resource for our MDC alumni, friends of the College and our community. Here, you will find key resources about relief efforts and opportunities to help in and around South Florida.

We will also collect and share stories of #MDCBold alumni, students, staff, supporters and friends who are stepping up to help on the front lines. If you would like to participate, please fill out the #MDCBold Stories form.

WAYS TO GET HELP

Employment Resources

  • CareerSource South Florida and Miami-Dade County are helping job seekers find new opportunities, get additional training resources and career building assistance through Employ Miami Dade.
  • MDC Works Career Studio provides career readiness information, services and resources for MDC students. MDC Works is hosting webinars and workshops on interview skills, resume writing and more open to the community.
  • The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity is offering disaster unemployment aid.
  • The One Fair Wage created a national emergency fund to support restaurant workers, delivery drivers and other tipped service workers with free, cash assistance.

  • Amazon is hiring workers for its fulfillment centers and delivery network.
  • CVS Health is hiring employees to serve in various capacities across its business.
  • PepsiCo is hiring employees over the coming months.
  • Pizza Hut is hiring employees to serve as drivers, shift leaders, cooks and managers.
  • Publix is hiring workers to meet increased demand.
  • Regions Bank is hiring people for open roles.
  • Walgreens is hiring employees for permanent and temporary roles.
  • Walmart is hiring workers for its distribution and fulfillment centers.

Food Resources

  • Farm Share is hosting regular distributions in neighborhoods throughout Miami-Dade.
  • Feeding South Florida is providing direct food and services for individuals and families.
  • Miami-Dade County Food Distribution events are made weekly.
  • Miami Dade County Public Schools are offering Grab and Go meals at various schools on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), in coordination with federal, state, and local partners, will ensure Floridians can access nutritious foods with online-based grocery purchasing.

Health & Wellness Resources

  • Baptist Health South Florida is offering free virtual exercise, meditation, and educational seminars.
  • Center for Disease Control and Prevention has tips to manage stress for parents, responders and more.
  • Florida Department of Health has a guide with what you need to know about COVID-19 in Florida and a call center available 24/7 at (866) 779-6121.
  • Mental Health America has compiled a range of resources and information for how to cope for parents, caregivers, older adults and vulnerable populations.
  • YMCA of South Palm County has launched more than 60 free online fitness classes and youth programs.

Small Business Resources

  • Beacon Council has gathered the latest, relevant information and resources available for local business owners and workforce and is updating their page on a regular basis.
  • Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program will provide short-term, interest-free loans to small businesses who were financially affected by COVID-19. For questions, call 866-737-7232.
  • Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce has a COVID-19 Business Resource Guide with up-to-date information and resources to help you and your business.
  • Restaurant Workers Community Foundation launched the national RWCF COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund to help individual workers affected by the coronavirus and to create zero-interest loans to businesses.
  • U.S. Chamber of Commerce is hosting a series of town halls and workshops to bring you tactical solutions for your most pressing business problems.
  • U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division summarizes paid leave legislation under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act with fact sheets and FAQs.
  • U.S. Small Business Administration is offering disaster aid for small businesses in Florida.

  • 2-1-1 JCS Helpline Services (305-358-HELP) is Greater Miami’s 24-hour hotline in English, Spanish and Creole.
  • 3-1-1 Contact Center is Miami-Dade County’s 311 Call Center connecting senior citizens with food needs to the Emergency Operations Center.
  • Catalyst Miami is continuing free tax prep to help families receive their stimulus check and other financial relief faster. To make an appointment at a Branches site, call 305-688-3551.
  • Florida Department of Education has compiled a list of free resources, offered by state and federal agencies, private companies and nonprofit organizations.
  • GEICO is offering 15% credit for your next full-policy term (6-Month or 12-Month Auto/Cycle/RV).
  • The Children’s Movement of Florida has compiled a list of resources for parents and childcare providers.
  • The Early Learning Coalition of Miami Dade and Monroe provides links for families, early learning, first responders and health care workers.
  • United Way of Miami-Dade COVID-19 Resource Center has gathered links to health and human service resources for our community’s most vulnerable.

WAYS TO GIVE HELP

  • MDC COVID-19 Student Relief Fund will go to work immediately to help students meet basic needs such as food and cover tuition so they can continue their education.
  • The Miami Herald has gathered links for ways to help those affected by the coronavirus crisis.
  • The New Tropic has compiled a list of resources to support the Miami community during the pandemic.
  • United Way of Miami Dade has created a special page with coronavirus-related volunteer efforts.
