The College’s New World School of the Arts (NWSA) is the country’s premier center of excellence in the visual and performing arts. NWSA develops students in dance, music, theater and visual arts from ninth grade through bachelor’s degrees. Students at NWSA learn from world-renowned faculty and guest artists, and have opportunities for internships, foreign exchange visits, and artistic and cultural events unique to South Florida. In addition, the school enriches the cultural life of the local community by offering many concerts, performances, and art exhibitions. Since 1984, the Miami Film Festival has brought the finest in world cinema to South Florida. MDC and the Festival joined forces in 2003, expanding into 11 official venues, countless parties, and a red carpet scene that has attracted tour de force actors such as Michael Caine, Helen Hunt, Antonio Banderas, Rosie Perez, Christopher Plummer, and Gloria Estefan – just to name a few.
The Museum of Art and Design at MDC is Miami Dade College's flagship museum dedicated to the presentation and exhibition of visual art and design, housed at the National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower in Downtown Miami. MOAD at MDC provides open, critical, and collaborative frameworks for artistic experimentation and interdisciplinary risk-taking that explores the intersections of art, design, and other art forms with cultural action. The Museum advances MDC’s core values, contributing to the intellectual life of the College while engaging students and audiences from the community and the world.
