Honors College Grad Becomes a Global Driver of Change

Jorge H. González is the co-founder and executive director at Beacon of Hope, a nonprofit organization that empowers youth in Latin America and the Caribbean by providing children with resources they need to succeed. These resources range from school supplies, full-tuition scholarships, computers, and software necessary to support educational initiatives. Since 2008, Beacon of Hope has transformed the lives of more than eleven thousand children and families across three countries.

Deeper Community Partnerships Translate Into More Opportunity for Aspiring Chefs

The Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) at Miami Dade College is making strides in expanding its connections across Miami – a win-win for both the community and aspiring chefs.From the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Miami Marlins and Taste of Miami to Susan G. Komen and a new festival at Bayside Marketplace, MCI’s new local partnerships are giving students more opportunity to learn while working in the field.

I AM MDC Donors Making an Impact

In a short video message, scholarship recipients thank donors who made a contribution on I AM MDC Day. The24-hour fundraising campaign on September 6 engaged MDC alumni and friends in the community to raise money for scholarships.Thanks to their support sixty-four MDC students have been selected to receive a total of $67,300 in scholarships.
