Benjamín León School of Nursing Receives $150,000 Gift
Lifelong philanthropist Joan Kennedy Stout and the Hugoton Foundation made a gift of $150,000 to the Benjamín León School of Nursing at Miami Dade College’s Medical Campus.
The Hugoton Foundation has supported MDC since the 1980s. The foundation is committed to patient safety and efficiencies required for the delivery of high-quality nursing services. Kennedy Stout, a retired registered nurse herself, has devoted her life to improving nursing education for the next generation. As a result of Kennedy Stout’s support, an Endowed Teaching Chair was established at MDC. She also funded the MDC Medical Campus Ethics Institute, and provided initial funding for a Director of Clinical Operations at the Benjamín León School of Nursing.“My ultimate goal is for MDC to grow and graduate competent and caring nurses. This world needs well-educated compassionate nurses who want to remain in this field,” she said. “Philanthropy is the vehicle by which we should fill in the gaps. By supporting this field of study, I’m in effect helping others throughout the world.”
